And actually, the whole plot could be a blueprint for romance writers!
It's one of my favourite movies too. Except that now, when I watch it, I find it so weird with Martin S as Chief of Staff, and not President LOL!Paula Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10040623635956769807noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999125118927001112.post-66807319262874402952011-02-23T13:58:32.504-08:002011-02-23T13:58:32.504-08:00PERFECT example Paula (and one of my favorite movi...PERFECT example Paula (and one of my favorite movies to boot!)Debra St. Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07154130275058459169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999125118927001112.post-10215854264104891492011-02-23T12:54:21.857-08:002011-02-23T12:54:21.857-08:00Hi,

Glad you found the post useful - and I think you are on the right lines when you say the black moment shouldn't be rushed or out of the blue.
Ana - without obstacles and tension, the story would become bland and boring, and I especially like building up to the final 'big one'!Paula Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10040623635956769807noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999125118927001112.post-73510169670264588602011-02-23T06:48:22.634-08:002011-02-23T06:48:22.634-08:00Great post, Paula. Yours, too, Mysti!
To me, romances are emotional stories, and a well set up Black Moment delivers on the implied promise of HEA that Debra commented on yesterday. Throw obstacle after obstable in front of our lead characters. The tension created drives the plot and keeps the reader turning pages. The penultimate suspense created by a solid Black Moment resolves in a wow! love triumph. And readers that come back for more thrilling rides.Ana Morganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12325215832587691886noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999125118927001112.post-88093574410348486132011-02-23T05:24:55.400-08:002011-02-23T05:24:55.400-08:00Great post. I struggled with mine for A Ranger's Tale, but after many edits and some wonderful critique partners, I think it finally works without being too rushed or out of the blue.

Those are great points to think about and remember, and I'll be sure to keep it in mind for my WIP. :)Mystihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02147640629724678243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999125118927001112.post-20739046497094132642011-02-23T05:03:38.933-08:002011-02-23T05:03:38.933-08:00I don't think I often have black moments but I...I don't think I often have black moments but I did in Fortune's Folly. Just when it seems like Andreas and Helena might get together for all time, the catalyst for the ruination of their relationship returns - with a vengeance. Thanks for explaining it so thoroughly, Paula, I now know exactly what you mean.margaret blakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04994723897446758457noreply@blogger.com
