My Time In The Spotlight

I'm not a huge movie person--gasp! It's not that I don't like them, because I do. I even have favorites, some of which I'll mention below. I think it's just that I don't get to go to the movies that often so I've lost the connection that I used to feel when my husband and I, or my friends and I, would go every week. And given the choice, I'd rather watch the TV characters that I watch every week than to a movie that looks okay so I taped it. However, there are some movies that definitely resonate with me. Here are three:

Dirty Dancing: It represents that "teenage crush" time of my life. I think I saw it 13 times and had a huge crush on Patrick Swayze.

Avalon: This movie came out in 1990 and is about a Polish American family that comes to America. I went to see it with my friends in college, then rushed back to my dorm, called my mom, and asked her how come I wasn't told that they were making a movie about our family. That's how well I can relate to it.

Sound of Music: My all-time favorite movie. I can watch and sing it all day.

What are yours?

  1. I don't go to the cinema very much, but I have dozens of DVDs!
Having said that, I've never seen Dirty Dancng, and not heard of Avalon.
I saw The Sound of Music when it first came out in 1965! Many years later I recorded it from TV onto video, and played it over and over again when I was directing the show for our local Musical Theatre Group!

  2. I'd swear someone followed my family around with a camera for 20 years in Avalon. It was great! And Dirty Dancing has got to be seen. Really!

  3. That's great how you could relate to Avalon. I must watch Dirty Dancing sometime, but I have a huge pile of TBW DVDs!

  4. Oh rats, you took one of my movies! "Dirty Dancing" was so on my list, too!

"Sound of Music" is one of those that whenever it's on, you have to sit down and watch it!

  5. I was going to say Shawshank Redemption (feel free to use it--actually, you can repeat DD if you want) because it's on ALL THE TIME and my husband and I laugh about it, but then Sound of Music came into my brain and that was it.

  6. I love Patrick Swayze, too.
    Avalon was amazing.
I like Julie Andrews in anything she does.
