Meeting 'online' friends

So here are Jennifer and Paula, at George and Martha's restaurant in Morristown, NJ, last Friday!

We had about 4 hours together, and hardly stopped talking the whole time! As Jen has already said, we already knew a lot about each other and, of course, recognised each other the instant I came round the corner from the parking lot. After that, it was as if we had known each other for years, which, in a sense, we have.

After meeting up with several online friends during the past few years (including four others last month), I've ceased to be amazed at how they can become instant friends when you meet in 'real' life. I'm sure it would be exactly the same if all four of us here at HWH managed to meet up at some time. Maybe one day we will be able to do that!

After about six months of planning my trip, it's hard to believe it's now over! But, if you're interested, I'm going to re-live it with a day-by-day account on my own blog. The first blog is here http://paulamartinpotpourri.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/day-1-first-class-manchester-to-newark.html
and I'll add a new blog each day - but I promise I won't upload all the 94 photos I took of the Grand Canyon!

  1. It's funny, because I've always been a little afraid to meet up with people from Facebook, because I've always thought we'd have nothing to talk about, since FB really takes away all need for smalltalk. But it wasn't an issue at all and it was so nice to see you!

  2. I've been to Morristown! I attended Kent Place school in /summit, lived in East Orange, had uncle and aunt in Short Hills.
I am so happy you got to spend time together, Jen and Paula!

  3. Like I said in Jennifer's post...how fun that you two got to meet. Wouldn't it be great if the four of us could hook up someday?!

  4. I'd love to figure out a way how, Debra! Oh Ana, you've been very close to me.

  5. Jen, I think you tend to have a sixth sense about FB friends. There are many with whom I know I would have an instant rapport. At the same time there are some I'm less sure about and probably wouldn't meet!
