Winding Down

It's hard to believe, but summer vacation is winding down. At this point, there's just a little over a week left before I report back to school. It seems like just yesterday the summer stretched before me with endless amounts of time to work on my writing.

But of course we know that time is not endless. And even with the time I had, I made no where near the amount of progress I'd hoped for over the course of the summer. I pecked at my WIP here and there and had days (even some in a row) where I made decent progress, but that was it. My grand plan to finish the novella didn't materialize. Not even close.

And I'm okay with that. Don't get me wrong, it would have been great to finish it up. Even better to have it edited and submitted. But it didn't happen. Oh well. I'm not going to beat myself up about it. I'm not going to worry about it. I'm not going to look back and say "If only..."

It's not like once school starts I can't write. Of course I can. When inspiration strikes, I'm sure I'll find time to increase that word count. Eventually the story will get finished. I'm on no deadline. And at least for the moment I won't disappear from the writing world. I have a Halloween novella coming out and a full-length print book soon to follow. And I couldn't be more excited. That print book is literally the culmination of a dream come true, and that's not something to be taken lightly.

So although in one sense summer is drawing to a close, that only means the promise of another season - Fall, my favorite! - is right around the corner. And the possibilities for inspiration are endless...even if time is not.

Until next time,

Happy Reading!

  1. School already, Debra?!
We have until after labor Day.
Your attitude about writing is healthy, IMO. And time does slip by, but you had a good, restful, happy summer...and books soon to be released.
    Celebration is in order.

  2. Yep, school already. The kiddos come on August 21.

I was stressing for a while, but it wasn't doing me any good, so I decided to just let it go and not worry about it anymore.

I'm definitely celebrating those books! :)

  5. Our schools have only just finished for the 6 week summer break. They go back early September.
Like Ana and Jen, I admire your attitude. There's no point berating yourself, and anyway, you have exciting times to look forward to in the autumn (or do I mean the fall?)
