Editing, Editing & More Editing

Jennifer gives an update...

I’ve been buried in my editing cave for the past several weeks, and I’m just now coming up for air. What have I been working on? Glad you asked! J

For the past few years, I’ve been working on a new series that I hope to start pitching in the near future. So I was editing books one and two to try to get them into shape. I’m hoping I was successful. I still have book 3 to revise—and it needs some serious revisions—and book four to write. This is a series I work on in my spare time (ha!), so it’s taken a while to get up and running.

I finally received my galleys for Five Minutes to Love from my editor, so I spent a week scouring the manuscript for misspelled words, additional or missing words (like a double “is,” for example), spacing issues or punctuation mistakes. My eyes are buggy, but I think I caught everything. Next step is to make sure they corrected all the errors and then I will have a release date. In the meantime, Addicted to Love, the first book in this series, is on sale this month for 99 cents. So it's a great time to pick it up!

I’ve also been re-editing my first book, A Heart of Little Faith. The publisher who had it is getting out of the business this summer, so I took my rights back and will try my hand at self-publishing that title (and maybe one other). I’m curious to see how it compares to other means of publishing, and I like the idea of being a hybrid author. So I sent the manuscript out to an editor, she has come back with fantastic changes, and I’m slowly going through them, making the book stronger. Next step will be copyedits.

And that, my friends, is what I’ve been up to lately. Hoping to have some news soon!

Oh, and happy birthday to Debra! J

Thank You!

Jennifer has a new book release...

It’s been an exciting week for me, as Addicted to Love released on Friday. I’ve had such lovely support from friends, family and fellow authors. I’ve watched stats rise, seen tons of re-tweets and Facebook posts and I’m almost at the point where I’m sick of myself.

But not of my book, never my book. This is the first book I’ve published after a long dry spell. That dry spell was partially of my own making and partially due to circumstances beyond my control. It was filled with stress, self-doubt and dashed hopes. With this publication release, though, I am once again filled with purpose.

I also am filled with extreme gratitude for everyone who has wished me well and hammered home what a lovely community of romance writers we have.

So thank you!

And if you’ll indulge me one last time, I’m going to do a quick promo:

Blurb: Dan Rothberg struggled after an accident killed his wife and he nearly lost custody of his daughter. He can no longer allow himself to get attached to anything or anyone. Until he meets Hannah.
Hannah Cohen is a young executive with a meddlesome grandmother and a troubled brother. She’d like nothing better than to find her own Mr. Right, after too many Mr. Wrongs. A sexy older man with a teenage daughter was never in her plans.
As they navigate their relationship through adolescent attitudes and grandmotherly interference, they realize age is just a number and love can be right in front of them. But when the terrible truth of Dan’s former struggles is exposed, Hannah must decide if she can get past his deception and allow love to conquer all.

Book Update

I knew as soon as I wrote last time that I was in the waiting stage that my situation would change, pretty much as soon as pressed “send” on this blog. And that’s exactly what happened.

I received my release date for Addicted to Love—July 21. It’s available for preorder on my publisher’s website, on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Kobo.

I’ve approved a beautiful cover for In the Moment, after some back and forth, which I was extremely grateful for—despite the cover letter that accompanies the cover, stating that no changes are allowed unless my name is spelled wrong, they were very receptive to the suggestions I made and I have ended up with a cover I LOVE. I’ll show it soon. I’ve also finished the galley proofs and the manuscript is now with the production department. That means I’ll see everything one last time and will have a release date shortly.

What am I doing now (other than panicking)? I’m putting together a marketing plan. I’m trying to be deliberate. I’m choosing things I think will have a high impact without breaking my budget. It’s easy to either do nothing or get caught up in the desire to do everything. So I’m building my newsletter list and getting ready to send one out—if you want to sign up, you can do so here. I’m advertising on Romance Devoured, which is made up of romance readers. And I’m currently considering which of two companies to use to help me publicize my book. Beyond that, I’ll plan a Facebook party and I’ll use ThunderClap and HeadTalker to get word of the release out there. My publisher sends the book out for review to a lot of different reviewers. And then I’ll take a step back see what happens—what works and what needs changing.

So stay tuned!

Jennifer’s New Cover

Filling out cover art forms is always stressful for me. Despite the fact I’m a writer and use words to convey thoughts all the time, I still get those words wrong. When I’m trying to explain my vision for a cover to someone who doesn’t know me, hasn’t read my manuscript and has his or her own ideas, no matter how clear I may think I’m being, a lot can get lost in translation.

So I was thrilled to receive this cover for my upcoming book!

And here’s the approved blurb:

Dan Rothberg struggled after an accident killed his wife and he nearly lost custody of his daughter.

Now all I need is a release date!
