My Favorite Things

Ah, so little time so many things to do....

As most of you know, in "real" life I'm a third grade teacher, so during the school year, between classroom responsibilities and extra curricular coaching duties, I'm pretty busy! Since summer break is upon us, I've had considerably more time to write lately. It's been wonderful...in fact, I finished my current WIP this past weekend. Now I'm working on edits a little bit at a time. My goal is to send it off (this weekend?!) to a colleague who volunteered to look it over before I submit somewhere. I think I might take the plunge and consider sending this one to Harlequin (per the advice of my trusted colleague)!

When I'm not teaching or writing, I have lots of varied interests. One of my favorites is cuddling up with my hubby and watching a movie or our current guilty pleasure, "True Blood". (You know me, I love my vampires.)

I always make time to read every day. Usually it's an hour before I go to sleep at night. But again, since it's summer now, I have more time for this indulgence as well. Currently I'm reading "The Red Pyramid" by Rick Riordan. It's a YA adventure novel...no vampires, but there are Egyptian gods and goddesses running about.

Other hobbies include hanging with my friends, scrapbooking, gardening, listening to music, sitting on my front porch or out by my pond, and doing renovation projects around and about our almost 100 year old house.

So, to quote Julie Andrews, "These are a few of my favorite things."

Until next time,

Happy Reading!

  1. Which Harlequin line will you submit to?

    Good luck.

  2. The renovation projects sound like hard work, not relaxation LOL!
And be prepared for a long wait if you submit to HQN, if they take as long as M&B/HQ here - 10 months and then a rejection. What a waste of time!

  3. HQN will only take a query letter. Usually, they won't accept without an agent.

I've finally found my target HQ line - SuperRomance! I just sent Wanda Ottewell a query. All these years of submitting elsewhere, this is the line I should have been targeting all along.

Crossing fingers she'll ask to read my story!

  4. Hi Toni, I'm gearing for Harlequin American. I'm planning on submitting a query first. I've researched on line, and it does seem like they'll take un anagented query, so we'll see what happens. I have all my fingers crossed, too!

Paula, Oh, I'm prepared for a long wait! In the meantime, I'll be working on the third book in my "This" series. ('This Time for Always' was first, then 'This Can't Be Love' comes out in the fall. I need to write and submit 'This Feels Like Home' to Wild Rose to complete the trilogy.

  5. Here we can send a query letter, synopsis and first 3 chapters To M&B/HQ. But they still took 10 months to respond.
Not like the old days when I got a response from them within a very short time.
My friend has a theory that, in these recession days, they now rely on their proven authors, and are not prepared to take on any new (untried) authors. I've heard several tales from writers about how long they had to wait - to get a rejection. Now I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole, LOL.

  6. True Blood is an amazing show. The synopsis of the novel series says Sookie goes with Eric. Bill is so romantic, though....
